How to turn off notifications on Instagram
What to know
- On the mobile app in your profile, tap the menu icon, select Settings > Notificationsand select the alerts you want to disable.
- On the web, go to your profile, click Settings > Notificationsand then select the alerts you want to disable.
- If you don't want to turn off alerts, you can choose to receive them only from specific activities or groups of users.
This article describes how to disable post and relationship notifications and other actions in the Instagram mobile app and in the browser on your computer.
How to disable post and relationship notifications on the Instagram mobile app
The notifications feature of the Instagram app gives you a fair amount of control over the types of alerts you receive (or which ones you don't want to receive). Follow the steps below to turn off notifications for posts and relationships.

Open the Instagram app on your mobile device and tap Profile icon in the lower right corner.

On your profile page, tap the icon hamburger menu In the upper right corner.

Get Settings In the fly-out menu that appears.

Get Notifications.

Get Posts, stories and comments.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose how to handle notifications First posts and stories:
- Turned off: Turn off all notifications for first posts and reports.
- From the people I observe: only allow notifications of first posts and reports from people you follow.
- From all: Allow notifications of first posts and reports from everyone.
Additionally First posts and storiesthere are many other notifications that you can turn off on the same screen:
- Likes: Turn off notifications for likes, or choose which ones you want to receive when someone likes a post you've created.
- Likes and comments on photos: disable or select the people you want to receive notifications about when they like or comment on your published photos.
- Your photos: turn off or select people to receive notifications about liking or commenting on photos where you have been tagged.
- Comments: turn off or select the people you want to receive notifications about liking or commenting on comments you leave on Instagram.
- Comment likes and pins: enable or disable notifications for comment likes and pins.
If you want to turn off all notifications, you can do so by tapping the Additional options in the system settings from Notifications screen, and then tap Show notifications On (green) or Off. (white).
How to disable notifications on Instagram from your web browser
If you use Instagram on your computer, you can turn off notifications from your web browser.
Changing notification preferences only affects the device on which you change them. So if you change them in the Instagram app for your computer via a web browser, it does not affect the notifications you receive when using the Instagram app on your mobile device.

Open Instagram in a web browser and click your Profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Choose Settings In the displayed menu.

Choose Push notifications In the left navigation menu.

Scroll through the list on the next screen and customize the notifications you want or don't want to receive. Options include:
- Likes
- Comments
- Likes on comments
- Likes and comments on photos where you are
- Accept tracking requests
- Friends on Instagram
- Direct requests on Instagram
- Instagram Direct
- Reminders
- First posts and stories
- Number of TV impressions on Instagram
- Demands for support
- Live video
For each selection, you can choose NA Or Turned off. In some cases, options are available Turned off, From the people I observeOr From all.
Once you've made your selection, you can return to Instagram and your new settings will be automatically saved.
